Creative Links: Ethical Gold – Exploring Sourcing Options, Monday 23 June 2025, 6pm – 8pm, £12, The Goldsmiths’ Centre
As the conversation around ethical making gains momentum, join us for an engaging panel discussion exploring the diverse and evolving approaches to sourcing gold responsibly.
This Creative Links event, hosted by sustainability advocate Jos Skeates of E.C.One, brings together four leading experts in the field:
-
Erin Kelly, Fairtrade Gold UK
-
Dominic Jones, Creative Director, The Royal Mint
-
Charles Betts, Single Mine Origin (SMO)
-
Annabel Cox, Fairmined Credits
They will explore the values, challenges, and opportunities of four key gold sourcing models: Fairtrade, Fairmined Credits, Single Mine Origin (SMO), and Recycled/Repurposed gold.
Each speaker will deliver a sharp, 5-minute presentation introducing their approach. This will be followed by a panel discussion and opportunity for you to ask questions and join in the discussion. At the beginning and close of the event there will be the opportunity to network and talk to peers.
What are Creative Links?
Our monthly Creative Links talks and networking events, designed for emerging makers and creative start-ups, provoke thoughts and questions which will enable you to reflect on where you are and how to get to where you want to be. Build your network, create links, learn to grow your business and become part of the community.
Details of our upcoming events and topics covered are listed in our What’s On. Every other month the event will be hosted online, should you not be able to attend an in-person event.
Do you record or broadcast Creative Links?
We run our events in person at the Goldsmiths’ Centre and online, so that as many of our community as possible can exchange ideas, learn from industry experts, and form valuable connections across the UK. We do not record these events, or broadcast them, to encourage the open sharing of ideas and experiences and preserve confidentiality. Popular topics will be repeated over time.
Do you have any access requirements?
We are committed to making our training programmes and events as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have any access requirements, please inform us as early as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements. While we will do our best to accommodate your needs, advance notice is essential to ensure we can provide appropriate support.

Who are the speakers?
Annabel Cox is a B Corp consultant with a career driven by sustainable and ethical business practice. She began her journey as a jewellery designer in 2007 at Sir John Cass, London. Right from the start of her design career she was fascinated with the origins of the materials that she used within the jewellery she created. This interest led her to work for CRED Jewellery for 9 years where she learnt about the sourcing of small-scale artisanal gold. In 2019 Annabel trained as a B Corp specialist, deepening her skills, and understanding of supply chains and environmental, social governance. Her experience in the jewellery industry gives her a unique appreciation for the origins and ethical sourcing of materials, as well as the importance of restoring and protecting the environment.
Charlie Betts represents the ninth generation of the Betts family to lead The Betts Group, a pioneering business specialising in refining precious metals and manufacturing jewellery and investment products. With deep industry insight, Charlie has witnessed the rising consumer demand for responsibly sourced jewellery and understands the challenges jewellers face in acquiring products with transparent provenance. Charlie is also the co-founder of Single Mine Origin (SMO); an initiative established to source fully traceable gold from the most responsibly operated large scale gold mines globally and to ensure long term reinvestment into environments and communities surrounding gold mines.
Jos Skeates is the founder and Managing Director of the award-winning jewellers E.C.One. Having trained as a Goldsmith, Jos studied Jewellery Design at Central St. Martins before establishing boutique jewellers E.C.One with his partner Alison. He has been a past Chairman of the Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council and, as an Assistant to the Court serves on various committees with The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. Jos is a passionate advocate for 'using business for good' through social or environmental impact. In 2019 as well as winning the 'Ethical Jewellery Business Award', Jos helped his company become the first UK jewellers to achieve B Corp status. He has recently completed a Master’s degree in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at Birkbeck University.
