What is the future of diamonds? This question will be the focus of a leading panel of jewellery and sustainability experts from British Vogue, Lark & Berry and The Fashion Debates during this special evening talk.

The rise in the manufacture of lab grown diamonds and ever evolving techniques for their creation is beginning to impact the traditional diamond sector. Moderated by Nina Sophia-Miralles, Editor of Londnr Magazine at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, a panel of leading experts

  • Philippa Durell, former jewellery editor of Tatler and contributing editor of Vogue and GQ
  • Olivia Pinnock, Fashion Journalist and Founder of The Fashion Debates
  • Laura Chavez, Founder & Managing Director of Lark & Berry
  • Katie Rowland, Creative Director of Lark & Berry

will discuss the current state of the diamond industry and the differences between mined and lab grown diamonds. They will explore how our cultural opinion of diamonds is shifting as a result of these changes and what needs to be done to ensure a sustainable future for the industry.

Who are the speakers?

Laura Chavez

Laura is the founder of Lark and Berry, a cultured diamond jewellery brand. Her brand launched early 2018, following her frustration at not being able to find affordable, high quality jewellery that guaranteed ethically mined diamonds. She finally found her solution in lab grown gems. The line is designed by world-renowned jewellery designer Katie Rowland and has been worn on the red carpet by Halima Aden, Martha Hunt and Michaela Coel to name a few. Lark and Berry is available globally online and at their standalone store in the heart of Marylebone, London.

Philippa Durell

Philippa Durell is a writer, editor and stylist, who has previously worked for a variety of heavyweight publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, Tatler and most recently Conde Nast Publications. She started her career as a fashion assistant and later moved onto becoming the Jewellery Editor at Tatler, then the Jewellery and Watches Editor at Condé Nast Publications. She has worked on editorials with some of the biggest designer brands and heritage names in the industry.

Katie Rowland

Katie Rowland is creative director of Lark and Berry. Having previously worked for the likes of Agent Provocateur and Sophie Hulme, she has BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Kingston University. She went on to study Jewellery Design at London’s Central St. Martin’s and with 10 years of working in the jewellery industry she launched Lark and Berry alongside Laura Chavez in 2018 and leads on the brand’s creative and design team.

Olivia Pinnock

Olivia has covered the fashion industry for the likes of Forbes, Drapers and The Future Laboratory, regularly exploring innovations and developments in sustainability. In May 2016 she launched The Fashion Debates, a series of panel discussions covering ethical issues affecting the industry from the health of models to vegan fashion to the lack of diverse beauty ideals and the environmental pollution caused. She is also a lecturer in fashion journalism, branding and communication.

Nina-Sophia Miralles

Nina-Sophia is the founder and editor of Londnr Magazine, a print and digital publication which launched in 2015. Londnr’s focus is discerning journalism covering the arts, culture, fashion and lifestyle in the capital, with an emphasis on supporting the creative industries.
