Curated by the Women’s Jewellery Network, this inspiring evening of conversation will feature Beanie Major, founder and creative director of jewellery storytelling platform In Detail, interviewing trailblazers from the jewellery and media industries.

For centuries women have been the driving force behind the jewellery industry, as both recipients and intrinsic – though often overlooked – individuals within design and manufacturing.

As we look to the future, join the Women's Jewellery Network for its first major event of 2018, an evening of networking and lively discussion.

Moderator Beanie Major, founder and creative director of online jewellery destination In Detail, will be joined in conversation by four of the top names in the jewellery and media industries:

  • Alex Monroe - Jewellery Designer and Founder, Alex Monroe
  • Emma Burgin - Chief Operating Officer, Alex Monroe
  • Juliet Herd - Editor, Hello! Fashion Monthly
  • Kate Flitcroft - Head of Jewellery Sales, Lyon & Turnbull

Listen as they discuss women’s roles within the industry, from changing structures and expectations of women in the workplace, to what tomorrow's women jewellery consumers will want and how to speak to them.

When does the talk start?

Exchange innovative ideas and network with your peers with a glass of wine, a beer or a soft drink from 6pm. The talk starts at 6.30pm. There will be a bar post-event.

Who are the speakers?

Beanie Major is the founder and creative director of the jewellery storytelling platform In Detail. After training in jewellery design at Edinburgh’s prestigious college of art where she was awarded 1st class honours, Beanie moved to London to work as part of the design team at Shaun Leane, one of the UK’s leading jewellery houses and long-time collaborator with Alexander McQueen. She is a regular contributor to publications including Grazia Daily and Country and Town House and has appeared in Style magazine, The Evening Standard and Tatler.

Alex Monroe is the jewellery designer and founder of much-loved British brand, Alex Monroe. Alex grew up in the countryside, roaming freely in the wilds of Suffolk, before training at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London. He created his first collection in 1987 and has since collaborated with a dazzling and diverse array of partners from Buckingham Place to Nike and The V&A Museum to Antrophologie. His jewellery is available around the world, from established independents to prestigious department stores as well as his unique flagship boutique near London Bridge.

Emma Burgin was appointed Chief Operating Offer of British jewellery brand Alex Munroe in 2015. Initially having joined the team as a workshop assistant, Emma rapidly rose through the ranks as Alex Monroe expanded its reach to include its award-winning HQ near London Bridge, featuring its first boutique, and the growth of its online shop. With a degree in Jewellery from Middlesex University, Emma today is responsible for the day to day running of the business, reporting directly to the board, working alongside jewellery designer and founder, Alex Monroe.

Juliet Herd is the Editor for Hello! Fashion Monthly (HFM), the glossy, affordable fashion magazine from the publishers of Hello! magazine, targeted towards 18- to 35- year-old-women. Juliet has been an intrinsic part of the Hello! brand for many years, and has this year been shortlisted as an editor-in-chief for the Style category at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards 2017. She was also the mastermind behind HFM’s past editorial collaboration with The Jewellery Editor.

Kate Flitcroft is an auctioneer, award-winning gemmologist and silver specialist. As a 10-year veteran of Christie’s in London, Kate joined auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull as The Head of Jewellery & Silver in 2014. With a BA (hons.) in Architecture from Washington University in St Louis, Kate went on to complete a MA (distinction) in History of Art at University of Glasgow. She earned an FGA from the Gemmological Association of London (Gem-A) where she is currently an adjunct tutor and won the Anderson Medal for Gemmology in 2016.
